Rosie's Writings

Today I made zines with some other students. We sat on the breezeway, and the wind came through. We stood around the picnic table because only one side had a bench. I wondered who would build a picnic table without benches on both sides. I'm not very artistic, and I got only to page 2 of my zine. It didn't look very good. It was just boxes with blue around them. Oh well. I have other things I like to do.

Today I talked on the phone with my brother about our childhood. We were discussing the time our mom tripped and threw the baby at the time across the room, where he landed on his head on the marble floor. He was fine! but recalling the story made us laugh so hard for some reason. I literally was crying, I was laughing so hard. The only other people who understand your childhood, to an extent, are your siblings. They were there when in happened. They speak the language of your youth.

 I saw the eclipse a few days ago. I'd never seen an eclipse before, but my dad had eclipse glasses, and we passed them back and forth. When the clouds were moving across the face of the eclipse, it was really beautiful, to be honest. It looked like the material of the sun was shifting. Like it was swirling. And then to watch the moon pass in front of the sun was really crazy. A few years ago, my dad made one of those shadowboxes so we could kind of see the last eclipse, but this time, I could actually look at it.

The other day the light was purple. It was literally purple, and it was so gorgeous, and the blossoms were purple and falling down from the tree and lying on the brick, which was also purple. I took so many pictures of it and sent the pictures to people, and as I was taking the pictures I was worried that I was wasting the moment by observing it too hard, but I wanted those pictures so I could always remember how beautiful that moment was.

Today I went to the park with my boyfriend, and we lay in the grass. The sun was caught behind a cloud, but it was so warm. On our way back, we saw a dead rat on the sidewalk. It was kind of decomposed and its intestines were coming out, I think. It was super disgusting. I didn't notice it at first, but he pointed it out, and then felt bad for pointing it out. I'm not a very observant person. I feel like other people are always seeing things I'm not.

 Today it rained, and the entire outdoors smells humid. I love the way the water reflects on the concrete tiles of Brody Terrace, and I love that I could walk through the rain in just short sleeves. I went from Gilman to Brody without my jacket on.
